Minimum Requirements

In each chapter of our e-text, there is a set of minimum requirements.  You may (and hopefully will want to) go above and beyond these requirements.  These are meant to just give you guidelines; but remember that this is YOUR e-text and you have much freedom to do what you will with it!

Each chapter should begin with a chapter Outline (or map)

Each chapter should contain cool images to engage the reader (remember you MUST cite any open source image and you must get approval for any copyrighted image!)

Each chapter should communicate the information in the most engaging and clear way possible.  Be diligent when thinking about how you organize the chapter, how you grab the readers' attention, how the chapter appears visually, and how accessible the information is.

There are eleven concrete requirements:

1)  A set of at least 10 terms and definitions relevant to your chapter's topic.  You may either create a simple list or create links to definitions of words within your text.

2) At least 2 graphs that YOU create that help explain the content.  This means you may not simply scan in a graph or chart.  You must come up with your own original ideas.

3) At least 3 charts.  Again, these should be your own work!

4) At least one example of your topic "in the media" today. This will require you to peruse the papers and news magazines.  Your example MUST be from print media, and may NOT be from the Internet (unless the source is a print media source found on-line -- eg The New York Times).

5) At least 10 "pages" (single-spaced) of content writing.   A "page" should be approximately 1000 words -- so we are talking 10,000 words MINIMUM -- but you will know what is in-depth, adequate coverage and what is not.  We will decide which font we want our e-text to use during class and the % will be 115%).

6)  An in-depth discussion of important and relevant historical turning points for your chapter.

7) At least one piece of multimedia content (podcast, video that you shoot yourself, etc.)

8) A "problem" section which lays out one of the biggest areas of concern for your topic and suggestions for how citizens can take action.

9) A "Get Connected" section which citizens would find helpful if they had a question about an issue under your topic.

10) A summary of the most important ideas in the chapter.

11) Source list, internet sources, and further reading.
